²³ They waited for me as for the rain,
    and they ^(A)opened their mouths as for the ^(B)spring rain.

²⁴ They do not say in their hearts,
    ‘Let us fear the Lord our God,
^(A)who gives the rain in its season,
    the autumn rain and the spring rain,
and keeps for us
    ^(B)the weeks appointed for the harvest.’

^3 (A)Let us know; ^(B)let us press on to know the Lord;
    ^(C)his going out is sure as the dawn;
he will come to us ^(D)as the showers,
    ^(E)as the spring rains that water the earth.”

^23 (A)“Be glad, O children of Zion,
    and ^(B)rejoice in the Lord your God,
for he has given ^(C)the early rain for your vindication;
    he has poured down for you abundant rain,
    ^(D)the early and ^(E)the latter rain, as before.
