Judah’s King Jehoiakim

³⁴ Then^(A) Pharaoh Neco made Eliakim^(B) son of Josiah king in place of his father Josiah and changed Eliakim’s name to Jehoiakim.^(C) But Neco took Jehoahaz and went to Egypt, and he died there.^(D)

¹⁷ And the king of Babylon made Mattaniah, Jehoiachin’s^[a] uncle, king in his place and changed his name to Zedekiah.^(A)

⁸ Finally Daniel, named Belteshazzar^(A) after the name of my god—and a spirit of the holy gods is in him^(B)—came before me. I told him the dream:

The Dream Interpreted

¹⁹ Then Daniel, whose name is Belteshazzar, was stunned for a moment, and his thoughts alarmed him. The king said, “Belteshazzar, don’t let the dream or its interpretation alarm you.”

Belteshazzar answered, “My lord, may the dream apply to those who hate you, and its interpretation to your enemies!^(A)

¹² did this because Daniel, the one the king named Belteshazzar, was found to have an extraordinary spirit, knowledge and intelligence, and the ability to interpret dreams, explain riddles, and solve problems.^[a](A) Therefore, summon Daniel, and he will give the interpretation.”

Vision of a Glorious One

10 In the third year of King Cyrus of Persia,^(A) a message was revealed to Daniel, who was named Belteshazzar.^(B) The message was true and was about a great conflict. He understood the message and had understanding of the vision.^(C)
