David’s Lament for Saul and Jonathan

¹⁷ David took up this lament^(A) concerning Saul and his son Jonathan,^(B)

³³ The king sang this lament^(A) for Abner:

²⁵ Jeremiah composed laments for Josiah, and to this day all the male and female singers commemorate Josiah in the laments.^(A) These became a tradition in Israel and are written in the Laments.^(B)

¹⁶ “This is the lament^(A) they will chant for her. The daughters of the nations will chant it; for Egypt and all her hordes they will chant it, declares the Sovereign Lord.”
