⁸ When the Most High gave the nations their inheritance^[a]
and divided the human race,^(A)
He set the boundaries of the peoples
according to the number of the people of Israel.^[b]
9 But the Lord’s portion is His people,
Jacob, His own inheritance.

² Remember Your congregation,
which You purchased long ago
and redeemed as the tribe for Your own possession.^(A)
Remember Mount Zion where You dwell.^(B)

¹⁷ Why, Yahweh, do You make us stray from Your ways?
You harden our hearts so we do not fear^[a] You.^(A)
Return, because of Your servants,
the tribes of Your heritage.
