²² They should judge the people at all times. Then they can bring you every major case but judge every minor case themselves. In this way you will lighten your load,^[a] and they will bear it with you.^(A)

²⁹ Moses said to Hobab, descendant of Reuel^(A) the Midianite and Moses’s relative by marriage, “We’re setting out for the place the Lord promised, ‘I will give it to you.’^(B) Come with us, and we will treat you well, for the Lord has promised good things to Israel.”^(C)

³⁰ But he replied to him, “I don’t want to go. Instead, I will go to my own land and my relatives.”
