¹⁸ to Abraham as a possession in the presence of the sons of Heth, before all who went in at the gate of his city.

²⁰ And Hamor and Shechem his son came to the ^(A)gate of their city, and spoke with the men of their city, saying:

²⁴ And all who went out of the gate of his city heeded Hamor and Shechem his son; every male was circumcised, all who ^(A)went out of the gate of his city.

Boaz Redeems Ruth

4 Now Boaz went up to the gate and sat down there; and behold, ^(A)the close relative of whom Boaz had spoken came by. So Boaz said, “Come aside, ^[a]friend, sit down here.” So he came aside and sat down.

⁴ And I thought to ^[a]inform you, saying, ^(A)‘Buy it back ^(B)in the presence of the inhabitants and the elders of my people. If you will redeem it, redeem it; but if ^[b]you will not redeem it, then tell me, that I may know; ^(C)for there is no one but you to redeem it, and I am next after you.’ ”

And he said, “I will redeem it.”

¹¹ And all the people who were at the gate, and the elders, said, “We are witnesses. ^(A)The Lord make the woman who is coming to your house like Rachel and Leah, the two who ^(B)built the house of Israel; and may you prosper in ^(C)Ephrathah and be famous in ^(D)Bethlehem.
