Go! Say to these people:
Keep listening, but do not understand;^(A)
keep looking, but do not perceive.

they may look and look,
yet not perceive;
they may listen and listen,
yet not understand;^(A)
otherwise, they might turn back—

Looking they may not see,
and hearing they may not understand.^(B)[a]

⁴⁰ He has blinded^(A) their eyes
and hardened their hearts,^(B)
so that they would not see with their eyes
or understand with their hearts,
and be converted,^(C)
and I would heal them.^(D)[a]

Go to these people and say:

have grown callous,
their ears are hard of hearing,
and they have shut their eyes;
