¹³ who were born,^(A) not of natural descent,^[a] or of the will^(B) of the flesh,^(C) or of the will of man,^[b] but of God.^(D)

³ Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, unless someone is born again,^[a](A) he cannot see the kingdom of God.”^(B)

⁷ Do not be amazed that I told you that you must be born^(A) again.

¹⁸ By his own choice, he gave us birth by the word of truth so that we would be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.^(A)

²³ because you have been born again^(A)—not of perishable seed^(B) but of imperishable—through the living and enduring word of God.^(C)
