¹⁹ If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own. However, because you are not of the world, but I have chosen^(A) you out of it, the world hates you.

² Do not be conformed^(A) to this age,^(B) but be transformed by the renewing of your mind,^(C) so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will^(D) of God.

²⁷ Pure and undefiled religion before God the Father is this: to look after orphans and widows^(A) in their distress and to keep oneself unstained from the world.^(B)

⁴ You adulterous people!^[a] Don’t you know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? So whoever wants to be the friend of the world becomes the enemy of God.^(A)
