⁵³ Then he is to release the live bird into the open countryside^(A) outside the city. In this way he will make atonement for the house, and it will be clean.

²¹ Aaron will lay both his hands on the head of the live goat and confess^(A) over it all the Israelites’ wrongdoings^(B) and rebellious acts—all their sins.^(C) He is to put them on the goat’s head and send it away into the wilderness^(D) by the man appointed for the task.^{[a] 22} The goat will carry on it all their wrongdoings into a desolate land,^(E) and he will release it there.
