⁵² because they had not understood about the loaves. Instead, their hearts were hardened.^(A)

⁵⁰ But they did not understand what He said to them.^(A)

³⁴ They understood none of these things.^(A) This saying^[a](B) was hidden^(C) from them, and they did not grasp what was said.

²⁵ He said to them, “How unwise and slow you are to believe in your hearts all that the prophets have spoken!^(A)

⁶ Jesus gave them this illustration, but they did not understand^(A) what He was telling them.

¹⁶ His disciples did not understand these things at first. However, when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about Him^(A) and that they had done these things to Him.

¹⁷ Therefore some of His disciples said to one another, “What is this He tells us: ‘A little while and you will not see Me; again a little while and you will see Me’; and, ‘because I am going to the Father’^(A)?” ¹⁸ They said, “What is this He is saying,^[a] ‘A little while’? We don’t know what He’s talking about!”

¹⁹ Jesus knew they wanted to question Him, so He said to them, “Are you asking one another about what I said, ‘A little while and you will not see Me; again a little while and you will see Me’?
