⁴ and they conspired to arrest Jesus in a treacherous way and kill Him.^(A)

¹⁸ Then the chief priests and the scribes^(A) heard it and started looking for a way to destroy Him. For they were afraid^(B) of Him, because the whole crowd was astonished by His teaching.

⁴⁷ Every day He was teaching^(A) in the temple complex. The chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people were looking for a way to destroy^(B) Him, ⁴⁸ but they could not find a way to do it, because all the people^(C) were captivated by what they heard.^[a]

The Identity of the Messiah

²⁵ Some of the people of Jerusalem^(A) were saying, “Isn’t this the man they want to kill?

³⁰ Then they tried to seize Him. Yet no one laid a hand on Him because His hour^[a] had not yet come.

⁴⁴ Some of them wanted to seize Him,^(A) but no one laid hands on Him.
