^11 (A)I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. ^(B)He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit ^[a]and fire.

^4 (A)John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance ^[a]for the remission of sins.

⁷ And he preached, saying, ^(A)“There comes One after me who is mightier than I, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to stoop down and loose.

^8 (A)I indeed baptized you with water, but He will baptize you ^(B)with the Holy Spirit.”

¹⁶ John answered, saying to all, ^(A)“I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will ^(B)baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

^15 (A)John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ^(B)‘He who comes after me ^[a]is preferred before me, ^(C)for He was before me.’ ”

²⁶ John answered them, saying, ^(A)“I baptize with water, ^(B)but there stands One among you whom you do not know.

^27 (A)It is He who, coming after me, ^[a]is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose.”

^24 (A)after John had first preached, before His coming, the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.
