⁷ When he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees^(A) coming to his baptism, he said to them, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?^(B)

⁶ Then Jesus told them, “Watch out and beware of the leaven^[a] of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”^(A)

¹⁵ Then^(A) he gave them strict orders: “Watch out! Beware of the leaven^[a](B) of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.”^(C)

Beware of Religious Hypocrisy

12 Meanwhile, a crowd of many thousands came together, so that they were trampling^(A) on one another. He began to say to his disciples first,^(B) “Be on your guard^(C) against the leaven^[a](D) of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.^(E)
