¹ Why^(A) do the nations rage^(B)
and the peoples plot in vain?^(C)
2 The kings of the earth take their stand,^(D)
and the rulers conspire together
against the Lord and his Anointed One:^[a](E)

²⁴ Seventy weeks are decreed^(A)
about your people and your holy city—
to bring the rebellion to an end,
to put a stop to sin,
to atone for iniquity,
to bring in everlasting righteousness,^(B)
to seal up vision and prophecy,
and to anoint the most holy place.
²⁵ Know and understand this:
From the issuing of the decree
to restore and rebuild Jerusalem^(C)
until an Anointed One,^(D) the ruler,^[a]
will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks.
It will be rebuilt with a plaza and a moat,
but in difficult times.

¹⁸ The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me^[a]
to proclaim release^[b] to the captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to set free the oppressed,

⁹ You have loved righteousness
and hated lawlessness;
this is why God, your God,
has anointed you
with the oil of joy^(A)
beyond your companions.^[a][b]
