Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Psalm 97[a]
97 The Lord reigns.
Let the earth be happy.
Let the many coastlands rejoice.
2 Dark clouds surround him;
equity and justice are the foundation of his throne.[b]
3 Fire goes before him;
on every side[c] it burns up his enemies.
4 His lightning bolts light up the world;
the earth sees and trembles.
5 The mountains melt like wax before the Lord,
before the Lord of the whole earth.
6 The sky declares his justice,
and all the nations see his splendor.
7 All who worship idols are ashamed,
those who boast about worthless idols.
All the gods bow down before him.[d]
8 Zion hears and rejoices,
the towns[e] of Judah are happy,
because of your judgments, O Lord.
9 For you, O Lord, are the Most High[f] over the whole earth;
you are elevated high above all gods.
10 You who love the Lord, hate evil!
He protects[g] the lives of his faithful followers;
he delivers them from the power[h] of the wicked.
11 The godly bask in the light;
the morally upright experience joy.[i]
12 You godly ones, rejoice in the Lord.
Give thanks to his holy name.[j]
12 Moses said to the Lord, “See, you have been saying to me, ‘Bring this people up,’[a] but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. But you said, ‘I know you by name,[b] and also you have found favor in my sight.’ 13 Now if I have found favor in your sight, show me[c] your way, that I may know you,[d] that I may continue to find[e] favor in your sight. And see[f] that this nation is your people.”
14 And the Lord[g] said, “My presence[h] will go with you,[i] and I will give you rest.”[j]
15 And Moses[k] said to him, “If your presence does not go[l] with us,[m] do not take us up from here.[n] 16 For how will it be known then that I have found favor in your sight, I and your people? Is it not by your going with us, so that we will be distinguished, I and your people, from all the people who are on the face of the earth?”[o]
17 The Lord said to Moses, “I will do this thing also that you have requested, for you have found favor in my sight, and I know[p] you by name.”
A Final Reminder
6 Then[a] the angel[b] said to me, “These words are reliable[c] and true. The Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent his angel to show his servants[d] what must happen soon.”
7 (Look ! I am coming soon!
Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy expressed in this book.)[e]
8 I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things,[f] and when I heard and saw them,[g] I threw myself down[h] to worship at the feet of the angel who was showing them to me. 9 But[i] he said to me, “Do not do this![j] I am a fellow servant[k] with you and with your brothers the prophets, and with those who obey[l] the words of this book. Worship God!”
