Version
Psalm 97

Psalm 97[a]

97 The Lord reigns.
Let the earth be happy.
Let the many coastlands rejoice.
Dark clouds surround him;
equity and justice are the foundation of his throne.[b]
Fire goes before him;
on every side[c] it burns up his enemies.
His lightning bolts light up the world;
the earth sees and trembles.
The mountains melt like wax before the Lord,
before the Lord of the whole earth.
The sky declares his justice,
and all the nations see his splendor.
All who worship idols are ashamed,
those who boast about worthless idols.
All the gods bow down before him.[d]
Zion hears and rejoices,
the towns[e] of Judah are happy,
because of your judgments, O Lord.
For you, O Lord, are the Most High[f] over the whole earth;
you are elevated high above all gods.
10 You who love the Lord, hate evil!
He protects[g] the lives of his faithful followers;
he delivers them from the power[h] of the wicked.
11 The godly bask in the light;
the morally upright experience joy.[i]
12 You godly ones, rejoice in the Lord.
Give thanks to his holy name.[j]

Exodus 33:18-23

18 And Moses[a] said, “Show me your glory.”[b]

19 And the Lord[c] said, “I will make all my goodness[d] pass before your face, and I will proclaim the Lord by name[e] before you; I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious; I will show mercy to whom I will show mercy.”[f] 20 But he added, “You cannot see my face, for no one can[g] see me and live.”[h] 21 The Lord said, “Here[i] is a place by me; you will station yourself[j] on a rock. 22 When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and will cover[k] you with my hand[l] while I pass by.[m] 23 Then I will take away my hand, and you will see my back,[n] but my face must not be seen.”[o]

John 1:14-18

14 Now[a] the Word became flesh[b] and took up residence[c] among us. We[d] saw his glory—the glory of the one and only,[e] full of grace and truth, who came from the Father. 15 John[f] testified[g] about him and shouted out,[h] “This one was the one about whom I said, ‘He who comes after me is greater than I am,[i] because he existed before me.’” 16 For we have all received from his fullness one gracious gift after another.[j] 17 For the law was given through Moses, but[k] grace and truth came about through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God. The only one,[l] himself God, who is in closest fellowship with[m] the Father, has made God[n] known.[o]
