Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
9 A[a] vision appeared to Paul during the night: A Macedonian man was standing there[b] urging him,[c] “Come over[d] to Macedonia[e] and help us!” 10 After Paul[f] saw the vision, we[g] attempted[h] immediately to go over to Macedonia,[i] concluding that God had called[j] us to proclaim the good news to them.
Arrival at Philippi
11 We put out to sea[k] from Troas[l] and sailed a straight course[m] to Samothrace,[n] the next day to Neapolis,[o] 12 and from there to Philippi, which is a leading city of that district[p] of Macedonia,[q] a Roman colony.[r] We stayed in this city for some days. 13 On the Sabbath day we went outside the city gate to the side of the river, where we thought there would be a place of prayer, and we sat down[s] and began to speak[t] to the women[u] who had assembled there.[v] 14 A[w] woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth[x] from the city of Thyatira,[y] a God-fearing woman, listened to us.[z] The Lord opened her heart to respond[aa] to what Paul was saying. 15 After she and her household were baptized, she urged us,[ab] “If[ac] you consider me to be a believer in the Lord,[ad] come and stay in my house.” And she persuaded[ae] us.
Psalm 67[a]
For the music director, to be accompanied by stringed instruments; a psalm, a song.
67 May God show us his favor[b] and bless us.[c]
May he smile on us.[d] (Selah)
2 Then those living on earth will know what you are like;
all nations will know how you deliver your people.[e]
3 Let the nations thank you, O God.
Let all the nations thank you.[f]
4 Let foreigners[g] rejoice and celebrate.
For you execute justice among the nations,
and govern the people living on earth.[h] (Selah)
5 Let the nations thank you, O God.
Let all the nations thank you.[i]
6 The earth yields its crops.
May God, our God, bless us.
7 May God bless us.[j]
Then all the ends of the earth will give him the honor he deserves.[k]
22 Now[a] I saw no temple in the city, because the Lord God—the All-Powerful[b]—and the Lamb are its temple. 23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, because the glory of God lights it up, and its lamp is the Lamb. 24 The nations[c] will walk by its light and the kings of the earth will bring their grandeur[d] into it. 25 Its gates will never be closed during the day[e] (and[f] there will be no night there).[g] 26 They will bring the grandeur and the wealth[h] of the nations[i] into it, 27 but[j] nothing ritually unclean[k] will ever enter into it, nor anyone who does what is detestable[l] or practices falsehood,[m] but only those whose names[n] are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
22 Then[o] the angel[p] showed me the river of the water of life—water as clear as crystal—pouring out[q] from the throne of God and of the Lamb, 2 flowing down the middle of the city’s[r] main street.[s] On each side[t] of the river is the tree of life producing twelve kinds[u] of fruit, yielding its fruit every month of the year.[v] Its leaves are for the healing of the nations. 3 And there will no longer be any curse,[w] and the throne of God and the Lamb will be in the city.[x] His[y] servants[z] will worship[aa] him, 4 and they will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. 5 Night will be no more, and they will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, because the Lord God will shine on them, and they will reign forever and ever.
23 Jesus replied,[a] “If anyone loves me, he will obey[b] my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and take up residence with him.[c] 24 The person who does not love me does not obey[d] my words. And the word[e] you hear is not mine, but the Father’s who sent me.
25 “I have spoken these things while staying[f] with you. 26 But the Advocate,[g] the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you[h] everything,[i] and will cause you to remember everything[j] I said to you.
27 “Peace I leave with you;[k] my peace I give to you; I do not give it[l] to you as the world does.[m] Do not let your hearts be distressed or lacking in courage.[n] 28 You heard me say to you,[o] ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad[p] that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am.[q] 29 I have told you now before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe.[r]
Healing a Paralytic at the Pool of Bethesda
5 After this[a] there was a Jewish feast,[b] and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 2 Now there is[c] in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate[d] a pool called Bethzatha[e] in Aramaic,[f] which has five covered walkways.[g] 3 A great number of sick, blind, lame, and paralyzed people were lying in these walkways.[h] 5 Now a man was there who had been disabled for thirty-eight years.[i] 6 When Jesus saw him lying there and when he realized[j] that the man[k] had been disabled a long time already, he said to him, “Do you want to become well?” 7 The sick man answered him, “Sir,[l] I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up. While I am trying to get into the water,[m] someone else[n] goes down there[o] before me.” 8 Jesus said to him, “Stand up! Pick up your mat[p] and walk.” 9 Immediately the man was healed,[q] and he picked up his mat[r] and started walking. (Now that day was a Sabbath.)[s]
